Indiana Racers Lead Pack for IHRA Summit Super Series Sportsman Top 10 List

HOUSE SPRINGS, Mo. — The Hoosier State produced the best IHRA Summit SuperSeries Sportsman racers in 2023.

Aaron Richards, representing US 41 Dragstrip, won the Sportsman championship at the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals presented by Strange Engineering. Gary Blankenship and Derek Simon from Muncie Dragway also had memorable trips to Mississippi. 

Runner-up Blankenship had quite the season, winning the Muncie track championship and also the IHRA  Division 3 (North Stars) Summit Team Finals race at Dragway  42. Third-place Simon qualified for the World Finals by winning the IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser Engineering and FuelTech at Muncie Dragway.

Jordan Johnson from Music City Raceway was fourth. He was familiar with the track at Holly Springs Motorsports Park, winning the IHRA Division 2 (Heat Wave) Summit Team Finals race there weeks earlier. Doug Rasmussen, the track champion at Motor Mile Dragway, finished fifth.

Glenda Cochran from Roxboro Motorsports Park heads up the next five with Ralph Bower from Pacemakers Outlaw Motorsports Park in seventh. Aaron Jordan, who qualified for the World Finals by winning the IHRA Summit Team Finals race at his home track, Xtreme Raceway Park, was eighth.

The final two spots are occupied by Dragway 42 track champion Kyle Penn and Onawa Dragway champion Joe McCarty.
